Apple’s love-it-or-hate-it iTunes media player has today been updated to version 8.2, preceding the release of the iPhone OS 3.0. The software, available on both Mac OS X and Windows, has not has an extensive upgrade, but as mentioned, it brings the all-important compatibility with the upcoming iPhone and iPod Touch operating system, most likely due out later this month.

Developers have so far received two pre-release versions of iTunes 8.2 from Apple, in order for them to test the OS 3.0, and, like we said, there aren’t many noticeable changes. You can find the support article for iTunes 8.2 here, as well as finding the support article for QuickTime 7.6.2 here. The QuickTime update brings with it only improved support for iTunes 8.2 and it improves compatibility with Apple ProRes media.

If you want to update your install of iTunes, please use the software itself to check for updates, or you can head to the download page to get your hands on it before the WWDC next week. Also, if you want to update QuickTime you can use the built-in updater, or find it right here. If you haven’t already, download it now and try it out, though don’t be let down if you don’t see fantastic new improvements.
